Open CALL / Artists and architects are invited to join Agora Experiments – a collateral project of the East Centric Architecture Triennale 2016
Arhitext Design Foundation - the producers and promoters of the East Centric Architecture Triennale announces the Open Call for Agora Experiments. Architects, artists and professionals in related fields who create experimental interventions in public space, with the aim of challenging current social, economic, cultural and urbanistic problems of the built environment are invited to participate in the Agora Experiments - a collateral project of the Architecture Triennale. The aim of the project is to co-create a much needed space of gathering and discussion upon a wide range of recent projects which address, research and test possible solutions for re-activating the public spaces by means of participatory art and architecture installations / structures. Applications to the Open Call are awaited until June, 20th.
Bridging the virtual and the physical world, Agora Experiments emerges as a collateral project of East Centric Architecture Triennale underlining its purpose to map the recent architecture in the region and to create a network in dialogue among the stakeholders of the public spaces. The project, composed of an online exhibition, a series of conferences and debates as well as interactions in-between online and offline will be intertwined with and connect the three main modules of the Triennale (Critical Discourses, Architectural Drifting – main exhibition and East Centric Arhitext Awards).
The open-call has two sections:
1. Experiments: - Addresses and promotes projects created by architects and artists involved in re-thinking and activating the urban public space by means of experimental installations / structures / urban designs;
2. Experiences: - Discovers and underlines the cultural and social challenges and issues identified and tackled by creators as part of their process of addressing new ways of shaping the urban public space by means of experimental projects.
Eligibility and Registration
To participation in the first section of the open-call each architect / artist/ interdisciplinary team based and working in Central and Eastern Europe must register one to four projects of experimental architecture.
The second section of the open-call is complementary and optional - for those who registered projects for the first section, opens the possibility of participating as guests to one of the two “debates in process” scheduled within the Triennale. To register for this section a mini-interview must be completed based on the experience gained during the realization of one of the projects registered in the first section (at the choice of each participant). The mini interview is integrated in the registration form.
Jury and selection
The Jury, composed of renowned international architects together with editors from Arhitext Magazine, actively involved in the past 5 years in the study of contemporary production of architecture in Central and Eastern Europe, will select at least 30 of the projects entered in the first section to be included in the online exhibition and 4 project teams or professionals (in pairs of 2) for the second section of the open call. The 4 project teams/professionals will have the opportunity to contribute and participate at the discussion panels of two Agora Experiments debates held in Bucharest, between 7-9 October, during East-Centric Architecture Triennale.
